Mir: "We have such a mess at Suzuki to look at Honda"

Since Suzuki announced at the beginning of May that it will leave the MotoGP World Championship at the end of the year, four races have been held and between its two riders they have added seven zeros out of a possible eight. The last one was carried out this Sunday by Joan Mir in the German Grand Prix race, in which he crashed when fighting to recover positions with Miguel Oliveira.

“It’s been a weekend with mixed emotions. It had been one of the best in recent weeks, but we chose the hard rear tire because of the temperature, and the tire wasn’t ready. That made me lose some positions and that’s where it all started” said Mir, who changed the rear tire at the last moment, already on the grid.

“Surely we did not make the right decision on the grid regarding the rear tire. I always believe in the advice that the team gives me,” he said.

Without a satellite team and with Alex Rins injured in his left hand, having to retire after FP3 due to pain, Mir entered the race as the only Suzuki, practically without information on the endurance of all the available tires.

“When there is only one motorcycle on the track, it is more difficult to make this type of decision, because there is a lack of information,” he acknowledged.

Mir sounds like a possible Honda rider for 2023, a team that was also left without scoring at the Sachsenring, the first time that has happened in 40 years.

“We have an important mess in our team to look at Honda, it’s not that we are full. Obviously they are not having a good time.”

On the fall, Mir explained that he lost the line a bit.

“During the fall, I got very close to Oliveira when drawing the curve and that made me lose the line a bit,” he explained, and this was what led him to the dirty asphalt, closing the front wheel.

With 10 races to go and an expiration date at Suzuki, staying calm is difficult.

“We need some patience because I hope the step forward works on other tracks.”

Regarding Quartararo’s unappealable victory, Mir explained that the escape was not so strange.

“The conditions this Sunday were very particular, and this is a circuit in which if you have something more than the rest, it is normal that you can escape”, settled the one from Palma.
