The ninth round of the season was lived in intense heat at the Circuit de Barcelona, where the leader of the championship, the Frenchman Fabio Quartararo, added his second victory of the year and extended, a little more, his advantage at the head of the general classification.
Uri Puigdemont and Germán Garcia Casanova analyze a race that began with a multiple accident in the first corner, caused by the Japanese Takaaki Nakagami, who took Alex Rins ahead (three crashes in the last three races) and one of the main candidates to discuss the crown with Fabio, the spearhead of the Ducati project, Pecco Bagnaia, which surely conditioned the future of the race, which ended with the Yamaha crossing the finish line more than six seconds ahead of the second.
After a few races marked by problems with his right hand, Jorge Martín, from Pramac-Ducati, was classified second and was once again a solid, fast and constant rider, and above all he knew how to take advantage of a blunder by Aleix Espargaró.
The Aprilia rider, who was completing a historic weekend, with pole included, reached the penultimate lap in second place and with everything in his hands to score 20 points and follow in the footsteps of Quartararo in the general classification, but the Catalan got confused with the With laps to go, he thought the race was over and began to celebrate second place with one lap to go. He reacted when he realized it, but lost three positions, crossing the finish line fifth.
The weekend was also conditioned by the permanent insistence of tire usury, which many interpreted as forcing them to be conservative at the beginning, a strategy that did not work out, since the winner preferred not to save anything, go out on top, build a big lead and, in the end, manage it. But he didn’t even have to do that, since he arrived with tires in good condition until the end.
Our analysts also review how the rider market is doing, in which only a few have an assured future, while important pieces, such as the 2020 champion Joan Mir, the Honda rider Pol Espargaró or the KTM rider Miguel Oliveira, still do not know, to this day, where they will run next season.
Finally, how could it be otherwise, a small reminder of the intervention that Marc Márquez underwent on Thursday of last week in Rochester. The one from Honda is already at home and will now begin a rehabilitation that must be definitive.
