In the preview of the MotoGP Grand Prix of Catalonia that takes place this weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Yamaha announced the extension of the contract of Fabio Quartararo, the current world champion, who returned the title to the brand of tuning forks after six years of drought.
Quartararo pointed out that the key to this renewal, until 2024, lies in the guarantees given by the tuning fork brand that it will redouble its efforts in trying to find that power that it misses so much, in routes such as, for example, the of Montmelo. This is a difficult goal to achieve if we take into account that the lack of muscle is one of the demands of the majority of riders who have been passing through the garages of the Japanese manufacturer; from Valentino Rossi to Maverick Viñales and through the current couple, formed by Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli.
“What has made me decide to continue with Yamaha is seeing the commitment they have made. They have shown me that they want me to continue here. And they have done it by showing me that they have put their batteries into trying to gain power, which is the only thing that this bike lacks”, commented, el Diablo, this Thursday.
Well, as revealed in this Saturday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport , Yamaha has hired the consulting services of Luca Marmorini , an engine engineer who gained a lot of exposure as head of Ferrari engines.
The 60-year-old Italian joined the Maranello manufacturer in the 1990s, later became part of Toyota, and then returned to the ‘Il Cavallino’ manufacturer in 2009, and until 2014.
The arrival at Aprilia of Massimo Rivola as CEO, at the end of 2018, brought Marmorini closer to Noale’s house, where he has collaborated externally, the same role that he will now play with Yamaha.
