Last hour:
Alex Márquez has been declared fit by the doctors after undergoing a check-up this Sunday morning and will be able to take part in the MotoGP race of the Catalunya Grand Prix, which is being held at the Circuit de Barcelona. The rider already took part in the morning warm up.
The fall of the youngest of the brothers from Cervera (Lleida) occurred during the fourth free practice session at the Circuit, on one of the fast curves on the track; an area that is reached at more than 200 kilometers per hour. It was at the first touch of the brake that the LCR driver lost the front end of his RC213V, and began to roll on the gravel, tumbling.
Once he managed to stop, he remained on his knees for a few seconds, before the assistants helped him to his feet and escorted him to the edge of the track, where he sat down again, visibly dizzy.
The blow was tremendous, to the point of breaking a tooth and burning his right forearm. The aftermath of the impact could also be seen on the forehead.
After passing through the circuit’s medical center, Alex Márquez underwent a series of tests that ruled out any major injury. Despite this, the championship’s medical officials deemed it appropriate to do another check-up this Sunday before letting him go out for a run.
“At that point I didn’t expect it, to be honest, but the front wheel locked up. It’s one of those falls that take away a lot of confidence”, Márquez summed up. “I am sore, with bruises everywhere. The blow was strong, and I even broke a tooth. I have bruises in several places, but nothing is broken. What worries the most is the head”, declared the Spaniard, almost more frustrated for not having been able to take part in qualifying, than hurt by the number of bruises that came out.
“The tests ruled out that he had anything serious, so I don’t think that tomorrow [Sunday] he will have any problem running,” added #73, who, with 11 accidents so far this year, along with Enea Bastianini and Marco Bezzecchi, who has fallen the most times.
“I want to give my 100% to help Honda, because it doesn’t enter my head to save myself. If I have to come to the races and save something, I stay at home”, settled the boy from Lucio Cecchinello’s team, who, if he receives the green light from the doctors, will have to start last.
