Pecco Bagnaia continues the European tour with a victory in front of the Italian fans in his locker. The official Ducati rider landed at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, a not entirely favorable track considering the Italian’s record.
Also, the one from Turin will try to leave behind his past on the Catalan asphalt, and perfect his best result, achieved in 2012.
“In my ten years in the championship I have never achieved good results here, so I have to change this situation,” Bagnaia introduced at the official press conference for the Catalan Grand Prix. “It’s one of my favorite GPs and I love being here, so it’s going to be important to do the same job we’ve been doing in the past.”
To repeat a good result it will be very important to understand the conditions of the Catalan circuit and improve grip, with a view to a Sunday with extreme heat and abrasive for the tires.
“The main focus of practice will be how to manage the last ten laps and the rear tire. The wear is very high, and last year we saw that the consumption of tires was very high, so we will have to be smart.”
“The new fairing can help me better in the last sector, which is the problematic one. Ducati has new elements and this year the grip may be lower due to the conditions, but it’s too early to say anything more,” said the official rider. .
“It won’t be easy, because normally when there’s low grip we have to change everything a bit, because my set-up is different. We have to do a lot of work these days but I’m sure we’ll be competitive.”
Along these lines, Pecco Bagnaia’s victory in Mugello led to his name appearing more and more in betting as a contender for the title.
“At the moment we are the ones who are contenders for the title and I think our potential is higher compared to 2021. I think we can be the contenders for the world championship, but we still have many races ahead of us,” concluded the Italian.
