After the long-awaited renewal by Yamaha of Fabio Quartararo, Joan Mir is on the lips of the entire paddock installed at the Montmeló circuit, where this weekend the ninth stop on the calendar will be held.
Despite the fact that his arrival at the official Honda team, sponsored by Repsol, is taken for granted, the Mallorcan does not seem to have anything closed yet, or, at least, that is the feeling that anyone who speaks with him these days has.
Surely, the two zeros that he accumulates in the last two appointments, those immediately after the announcement of Suzuki, who will leave the World Championship at the end of the year, are not the best letter of introduction to appear before a team to ask for a place. However, the Balearic, world champion in 2020, considers that his track record is more than enough.
“Everyone knows what I’m capable of. The results always help, but we can all have two complicated races,” agreed Mir, this Thursday, already in the ‘Circuit’. “My contractual situation does not cause me any problem, but if I could choose, I would obviously prefer it to be another. There is no one who wants this to be resolved more than me,” said #36, who hopes to break that negative inertia that accompanied him at Le Mans and in Italy.
The runner is optimistic in this sense because, according to what he said, the technicians finally identified the technical cause of his headaches, especially at the entrance of the curves and throughout them.
“I had been complaining about one thing for days and Mugello was the lowest point in that aspect. I think that with the team we have found the cause, and that motivates me for this weekend. All the problems I have had are due to what myself, and now that we have identified the root of the matter, I have much more confidence”, clinched the Suzuki rider, tenth in the general table, with 56 points, 66 less than those listed in the box of Fabio Quartararo, the leader.
