The Spaniard took a plane this Tuesday to Minnesota , to be operated on Thursday at the Mayo Clinic, in which it will be the fourth operation on the right humerus that was broken in Jerez, almost two years ago.
Last Friday, between the first free rehearsal, in Mugello, and the second, Márquez received a call from Dr. Joaquín Sánchez Sotelo , who gave him the green light to undergo surgery again, and to do so immediately.
As the Catalan recognized, he would not even have run in Italy if he had known that he would be able to undergo surgery so soon. But the fact that he had already taken part in the first practice session of the weekend led him to make the decision to go ahead and contest the race on Sunday, in which he finally finished tenth.
Marc Márquez has arrived at around 5 in the morning (European time) in Minnesota, where he will undergo surgery this Thursday
At the gates of the ninth stop on the calendar, this Sunday in Montmeló, Fabio Quartararo leads the general table, with an eight-point advantage over Aleix Espargaró, 28 over Enea Bastianini and 41 over Pecco Bagnaia, fourth.
After getting off the bike, the Honda rider was asked how he saw the fight for the World Championship, and, as is his custom, it was very clear that the time had come to give his opinion.
“The fastest is Pecco, but the most constant are Fabio and Aleix”, declared Marc Márquez, after highlighting Bagnaia’s victory in front of his public, but, above all, the solvency and determination exhibited by Quartararo, who in his crusade Towards second place, a series of spectacular overtaking was pulled out of his hat, basically in the linked corners, where he could take advantage of the handling of his Yamaha.
“The one that surprised me the most in Mugello was Quartararo. I didn’t expect him in that attack mode. And I say it because of how he did it. I think this will give him wings. If Pecco chain two or three wins in a row he can be one of the reference. But the great covered is Aleix”, added the runner from Cervera (Lleida), who highlighted the trade of the eldest of the brothers from Granollers (Barcelona), and also of the prototype that the Noale brand has assembled.
“In the last few laps, (Maverick) Viñales was cutting half a second off me per lap. But it’s not just the Aprilia, but also Aleix, who is getting the most out of that bike,” argued Márquez, who ultimately acknowledged that, given the choice of a champion, he preferred to sweep home: “I have no preference, but if it were up to me, if he stayed in Spain, then better.”
