Alex Rins: "KTM has been interested in me"

After bad news such as Suzuki’s departure from the MotoGP World Championship once this season is over, most of the paddock would have signed a good result for Alex Rins or Joan Mir in France. Not so much for the brand, which will interpret an embarrassing fright of the championship, but to lift the spirits of a troop that has been very touched, how could it be otherwise.

However, the rush will have to come in two weeks’ time, at Mugello, after both Rins and Mir ended up on the ground, despite a strong start to the race.

Especially striking was the fall of the Catalan, who made a meteoric start from eighth position on the starting grid to third, where he landed after the first corners of the race.

With the hardest work done, Rins suffered the compensation of the aerodynamics that have gained so much influence in MotoGP in recent years. On the third lap, and while he was riding close to the tail of Pecco Bagnaia’s Ducati, the Barcelona native lost his front gear when he hit the brakes at the entrance to one of the variants of the French track, according to what he said, probably as a result of the aspiration of the rival’s Ducati. Rins got into the gravel at more than 200 kilometers per hour and managed to control the bike, but just at the moment of re-entering the asphalt, in the change of surface, he entered with a slight inclination that ended up spitting on him.

“I had done the most complicated thing, which was to start well and recover positions. I was third, behind Pecco, and the Ducati swallowed me, we suppose because of the aspiration. When braking I lost the front end and I went long to the gravel, and there it is difficult to control the situation, at more than 200 per hour”, summarized #42, who at the next meeting of the Safety Commission will request an analysis of that specific point, so that it is reviewed and alternatives are sought: “I was afraid.”

After the Hamamatsu builder’s farewell bombshell, this was no ordinary weekend for the members of Suzuki. Above all, for most of the technicians and operators, who must have already begun to move to try to find accommodation with a view to the coming course.

The two riders are also working to find a bike by then, given that both have recognized that their first option was always to renew with Suzuki.

“What I have to do is what I have done this weekend. I’ve been seen in free trials, and obviously we have to improve in qualifying. KTM has been interested in me and my agent has been talking to Aprilia, Honda and Yamaha. We will see what comes out ”, revealed Rins.
