Le Mans.- Marc Márquez was questioned this Thursday in the run-up to the French Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend at Le Mans, about the steering wheel hit by Suzuki, who will leave the World Championship at the end of the year.
“It’s very bad news for the championship, it’s not good for a factory to leave, the more constructors there are on the grid, the better for entertainment,” said the Honda rider.
Without pausing, Marc himself noted an immediate consequence of Hamamatsu’s decision.
“It is clear that this decision is going to shake the market, now there are two great free riders. Suzuki is a great project that has worked a lot and has evolved a lot and that means that there are great engineers and mechanics in there and that is going to turn the paddock. in general to look for work”, valued the Spanish rider, who has a contract with HRC until the end of 2024.
One of the derivatives of the news of the closure of Suzuki at the end of the year is that the name of Joan Mir now sounds strong to come to Honda instead of Pol Espargaró and as Marc’s partner.
“Logically Mir is a great rider, he is the MotoGP world champion, Rins is a great rider, and Pol is too, but I know that Honda will always seek to have the best structure in general, I have a contract and the teammate doesn’t even I decide and I don’t want to intervene in it. Honda is going to try to find the best they create to have a competitive team and meet the objective, which is that if one doesn’t win, let the other do it. In any team the dream is that they are the two pilots in front”.
During the press conference this Thursday at Le Mans, once again Marc used the expression “in my current state”, without making it clear if it was in reference to the physique, the bike…
“I am speaking in general, not just about a specific point, I am referring to confidence with the bike, physical condition, the results have been progressing in recent races, but it is missing, we need to give one more push if we want to start fighting for podium positions, I don’t say to win, I say podium, and let’s see if we try to take that step”.
Márquez arrives at Le Mans after a test in Jerez on Monday of last week for which the sensations, in principle, were positive.
“They were good, but any rider always wants more, more is expected, even the Honda engineers, they also want more. Things were tested, some worked, others, as happens in all tests, were not as expected, but the key is keep insisting and evolving”.
