Jerez.- Enea Bastianini is the only rider on the MotoGP grid who after six races this season has been able to win twice, and in addition to having done so on a Ducati GP21 from the Gresini team, which until this Sunday’s race at the The Spanish Grand Prix had revealed the new technical package of the Italian house for this year.
However, the victory this Sunday in Jerez de Pecco Bagnaia, the first for the Italian since last year in Valencia and the first to be achieved by a rider from the official factory team, seems to indicate that the new machinery is already fine-tuned and ready to make it obsolete last year’s bike and cut the inertia with which he came from winning, that bike, four of the last six races last year.
“I don’t think that the 2021 Ducati has already expired, I think that I still have a good technical package and I think that in the next races we will be back where we need to be,” the Gresini rider disagreed.
“Today was a somewhat strange race in which I didn’t feel well from the beginning and it was all a bit difficult”, added Bastianini.
Regarding those problems that have prevented him from being so competitive, the Italian has an opportunity this Monday in the official test that takes place on this same track to understand what has happened and solve it.
“The problem we have had during the race is that I have not been able to have confidence with the front end and tomorrow we will work to improve on that point. I would have liked to have had a slightly more stable bike, which was not the case in the race”.
Bastianini is becoming an all-or-nothing rider, he won in Qatar and Austin, but when he doesn’t cross the finish line first he struggles to get a podium or top 5 result.
“We have had a discreet race, but the important thing is always to give our best, and we have done that, we have to face difficult moments in the best way”.
In the end, Bastianini managed to secure 8th place in a tough final battle with VR46 rookie Marco Bezzecchi, who rides the same bike.
“It was a tough battle, we were able to fight a few laps and he overtook me, he was very fast in some corners, but in the end I was able to finish ahead of him,” he celebrated.
For this Monday, in the test, Ducati has brought some new parts at the aerodynamic level, a part that, during the season, may receive a novelty according to the regulations.
“Yes, tomorrow we are going to test a new fairing and see how it works and how it feels before deciding whether to fit it in the next race. We’ll see”, underlined the boy from Rimini cautiously, who can only make one change of that piece and is aware that he must hit.
