Jerez.- Alex Márquez assured last week in Portimao that Honda was working on two development paths, on the one hand he along with his brother Marc Márquez, and on the other Pol Espargaró and Takaaki Nakagami.
The statement surprised Pol and left Honda frozen, who quickly assured that the shots were not going that way. At Jerez on Thursday, Motorsport.com asked Alex if they were going to continue working on two development tracks.
“I think the words were misunderstood, we are not working in two directions, but we are all working in the same direction and the evolutions that are going to come are for everyone, not just for some pilot. And that is where we are all going to improve the problem with the front end”, rectified the Honda.
“What I did say is that, perhaps due to riding styles, me and Marc [Márquez] suffer a little more or the problem is a little more accentuated, but if improvements come to the front and we get the bike to turn better and Let’s have more good feelings, [Takaaki] Nakagami and Pol [Espargaró] are going to take another important step forward and extract more from the strong point of this bike, compared to last year’s, which is the rear grip”.
A rear grip that, at the beginning of the season, seemed to be the great strong point of the new Honda and that now seems to have become a problem.
“No, not for me. For me it’s still the same, it’s clear that sometimes we have grip problems, but it doesn’t come from that point, it’s because we’re not prepared to be able to extract the maximum grip, because we’re not positioned on top of the bike into the corner to lift the bike and use maximum power”.
A problem that, it is understood, is given by the problem in the front end.
“That’s where we’re trying to analyze things, but it does seem from the data that entering the corner, which is where we suffer, and turning, which is what we lack, makes us unprepared to be able to lift the bike and put the power in. We suffer because we are very inclined and we cannot make the lines that you normally take advantage of with a MotoGP”, settled.
