The Algarve left a new leader in the MotoGP championship last Sunday at the Portuguese Grand Prix. After a critical season for the tuning fork brand, Fabio Quartararo managed to make his M1 shine on a podium shared with Johann Zarco and Aleix Espargaró. Now, the world championship paddock is on its way to Spain to compete this weekend in Jerez, the sixth round of the 2022 MotoGP calendar.
Taking into account the parameters of Portugal, Austin, Argentina, Indonesia and Qatar, these are some of the possible protagonists for the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend at the Jerez Circuit – Ángel Nieto.
Fabio Quartararo will begin his title defense this weekend in Jerez, a circuit where he was already able to savor victory in 2020. Full of motivation after his good work in Portugal, the reigning world champion arrives in the neighboring country eager to continue in top of the leaderboard.
However, this task will be threatened by the national riders Álex Rins and Aleix Espargaró, who will give their best to defend their points in the home Grand Prix. Although Suzuki hasn’t won here since 2000, its regular riders could change the present of the Japanese team this weekend in Jerez.
For his part, the driver from Granollers arrives at the Spanish track driven by a victory in Argentina and a podium finish in the Portuguese ranks. In 2021, his Aprilia finished in sixth position, giving the team its best result at Jerez since Doriano Romboni in 1997.
Marc Márquez and Pol Espargaró could also change the course of Honda this weekend, in order to leave the sixth and last position as a factory rider in the MotoGP championship. Marc Márquez’s last victory in Jerez was in 2019, which followed 2018 and 2014. For this reason, the golden wing garage could offer its best version in one of the circuits where it has been strong in recent years.
Finally, Jack Miller can be added to the list of candidates. Despite having a fatal outcome last Sunday during the Portuguese Grand Prix, the Ducati team could witness the success of its Australian rider, who won last year and intends to repeat it next Sunday.
