Austin.- Alex Rins put on a real display of power this Friday at the start of the Grand Prix of the Americas, leading FP1 and practically the entire second free test, always on a used tire, which shows that in addition to a decent fast lap , is the rider with the best race pace when there is still all Saturday left to continue working.
“We decided to change the strategy and work for the race, and that’s why I did the fastest lap in the middle of the session. The weekend starts very well, and the pace on the soft rubber is good. On paper, it’s enough to finish the race “, said Rins, who opted for the softer compound with a view to the race.
In the preview, the Suzuki riders agreed that the Austin circuit was a good setting to assess the potential of the 2022 bike.
“The bike is going well, I have control and a good rhythm. In the computation of the five best laps of all, I am up,” he said.
Rins led the first test despite having two strange incidents, when the bike stopped in the first stages of the session, and then ran out of gas when he went out with the second machine.
“In the morning we had a problem with the electronics,” he limited himself to commenting.
Another novelty of the GSX-RR 2022 is the advanced evolution of the rear height adjustment device that caused so many problems last year.
“In preseason we took a step with the rear height adjuster, and now it goes down smoother,” he approved.
Rins has won three times at Austin, including once in the premier class, his first triumph with Suzuki, and it looks like he’s willing to give the local sheriff, Marc Marquez, a run for his money.
“I would like to win here, because the level is very high. This track gives me security”, he pointed out, before acknowledging that “I have seen Marc well”.
