After taking pole position at the 2022 Formula 1 French Grand Prix, the Monegasque Ferrari driver was confident of keeping the top position and reducing his deficit to Max Verstappen for the third consecutive race, but everything went wrong due to a mistake of his own. Charles Leclerc when he was leading the race.
The #16 lost control of his car on lap 18 and sadly for his options, he failed to stop his F1-75 in time before crashing into the protections of the Paul Ricard track, thus ending his race and leaving the victory to hands of his greatest rival; Verstappen .
With this zero from Leclerc and the 25 points added by the Dutch driver, the difference between them increased to 63 points , a difference not seen since the 2020 season with Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
This means that, to regain the first position, the Ferrari Monegasque would have to win at least three races and hope that the Red Bull man abandoned two of them and finished off the podium in the other. Something that, judging the development of this course, seems really very complicated to happen.
After his accident, Leclerc was quickly aware of it and, furthermore, as it was a driving error, the Monegasque entered a state of disappointment and frustration, being fully aware that this failure could be key in the future of Formula 1 in 2022, the first year in which he really has a car with which he can fight for the title.
