If anyone knows well the difficulties that Pol Espargaró has gone through since he joined the official Honda team, at the beginning of this season, until this past Sunday, when he achieved his first podium with the Japanese brand, it is his brother Aleix Espargaró, who he was happy with the success achieved by the second in the saga of the Granollers riders.
“I am very happy for him, because it has cost him a lot. I know how much enthusiasm and how much effort Pol put into it, not just last year when he joined this team, but long before, since he had always wanted to race with Honda ”, revealed the Aprilia rider.
“The road has been harder than he imagined and the fact that this podium has arrived will have taken a weight off his shoulders and it will surely make him very happy”, he added.
Aleix, who also this year achieved his first podium with Aprilia, was unable to complete the race he had in mind this Sunday at Misano .
“We have had a problem with the rear tire and now we have to understand with Michelin what has happened. I didn’t have any traction from the start of the race,” he said.
“I started well, aggressively, I advanced a lot of positions on the first lap. But then I never had the rhythm, I was going very slowly and I had the feeling that I was going to fall going into all the corners. It had no traction. I have dedicated myself to limiting the damage and not making mistakes”, he valued.
Despite the problems, in the end Aleix crossed the finish line 7th, just ahead of his teammate Maverick Viñales, who signed his best performance since arriving at Aprilia.
“In the end I’m happy because in a shitty race, speaking in silver, with a very slow pace, getting the points I’ve got is important for the championship and for the team, so I’m going home satisfied”, settled the Catalan just after finishing the race.
