MotoGP – Bagnaia: "I would like to have a battle with Quartararo"

Second overall, winner in the last and spectacular race in Aragon and second pole in a row, Pecco Bagnaia is at his best moment and hopes to take advantage of it in his home race, the San Marino Grand Prix, to cut points from the leader of the contest, Fabio Quartararo, with whom he would like to have a nice fight.

“This year we have lost our serenity a bit on some occasions. We’ve done three or four races where I felt fine, but something always happened. But since the first in Austria I feel perfect with everything. Here we have touched very little on the set-up of the bike. As it has rained in some sessions we have not been able to do many laps with used tires to make changes, and we also had things to test, but everything has been perfect”, explained the Ducati rider.

For Pecco, this Saturday was the third pole of the season and the second in a row, breaking the record for the best lap of the Misano track.

“In the time attack I did not expect a 31.0. On the first try I went slow, 31.6, and it cost me a bit. Then, I just let the front end work, I pushed a lot on the setup lap and everything went much better than the first attempt. I always learn things and that is very good”, he summarized.

Bagnaia is second overall, 53 points behind the solid leader Quartararo, who, like in Aragon, will start third. But this time it seems that it is stronger than then.

“In Aragón, Fabio was also very strong. I think that with Marc [Márquez] the three of us had the best rhythm. Then in the race it seems that he had problems with the tire pressure, these are things that happen when you’re not in traffic. We have a good pace, I haven’t had to do anything strange to be fast, just consistency with used rubber”.

“We have to look at some things. We have lost a session due to the rain, but we can adjust something tomorrow in the warm up”.

Looking ahead to the race, the forecasts give chances of rain.

“I prefer a dry race, in the wet it is always easier to make mistakes, in the wet there is no grip on this asphalt. I would like to have a good fight with Fabio, he is always very tough and I would like to fight with him, although if I can go out, escape and win alone, maybe I will like it more”, settled the one from Torino.
