Jorge Martín, evacuated by helicopter after a serious accident at the Portuguese GP | MotoGP

Jorge Martín starred in a big crash in free practice for the Portuguese Grand Prix that takes place in Portimao. The Madrid MotoGP rider crashed at turn 7 of the circuit and had to be evacuated by helicopter to the Faro hospital to have a full body CT scan performed. Jorge Martín is conscious. They take him on a stretcher to the medical center after this very hard fall 😞 Make it as little as possible, @ 88jorgemartin! 🙏 # PortugueseGP 🇵🇹 #MotoGP 🏁 pic.twitter.com/jkO73jSR5n – DAZN Spain (@DAZN_ES) April 17, 2021 Dr. Ángel Charte explained to the media that Jorge Martín is “stable” and “conscious and oriented.” “He suffers head trauma and possible fractures to his hand and foot. His prognosis is not serious, but reserved, “he added. UPDATE on the status of @ 88jorgemartin Dr Charte: “The initial diagnosis is a head injury with the possibility of several fractures in the hand and foot. Initially the prognosis is not serious, it is reserved” #PortugueseGP M #MotoGP 🏁 pic.twitter.com / in1z1edXRo- DAZN Spain (@DAZN_ES) April 17, 2021 The Ducati rider lost control of his bike with five minutes to go before the free practice session ended at the Portimao track. When he stepped on the sand, Jorge Martín lost control and began to walk around the field with violence that scared everyone present. Martín was quickly treated by medical services and transferred to the circuit medical center. Once there, and after first explorations, it was decided to take him by helicopter to the Faro hospital to make a more precise diagnosis. “It was a good scare” The Pramac team coach, Fonsi Nieto, also gave details of Jorge Martín’s condition: «We are calmer. It was a good scare. His hand and one leg hurt quite a bit. They have told us that things are fine and we don’t even think about what might happen tomorrow. “The pilot himself put a reassuring message from the hospital after being treated:” It’s not my best day, believe me. Much pain but I am a Martinator. See you soon”. Logically he is completely ruled out for Sunday’s race, which is a shame considering his great result in the last grand prix where he finished third from pole. Unfortunately, he has to stop with the hope of being able to be at the next grand prix, in Jerez on May 2. Not my best day, you can trust me! A lot of pain but I am Martinator. SEE U SOON @motogp pic.twitter.com/rWAIouJ5Tp – JorgeMartínAlmoguera (@ 88jorgemartin) April 17, 2021
