The so-called biomass resources can be distinguished between forest and agricultural. Biomass is also considered to be organic matter from sewage and sewage sludge , as well as waste derived from industries. There are four processes by which biomass can be converted into heat and electricity: combustion, anaerobic digestion, gasification, and pyrolysis.
Among the disadvantages of biomass are the danger of the incineration of organic matter, the use of edible vegetable crops , or the lack of suitable places for its advantageous use.
