MotoGP: landslide victory for Quartararo at Mugello

The French rider, who started from pole, lost the lead at the start to Pecco Bagnaia. The Ducati rider was looking to release his record in MotoGP and passed with a tenth advantage in the first lap, but when he reached turn 9 he lost control of his bike and went to the ground as he also did in Misano last season riding in head.

Quartararo , after getting rid of Johann Zarco who overtook him for a few moments, regained the lead on the third lap and from that moment he opened the gap tenth by tenth to cross the finish line with almost three seconds to spare.

With this result, El Diablo extends its lead in the championship, favored by the abandonment of Bagnaia. Quartararo takes 24 points to the second, who is now Zarco after finishing fourth.

Miguel Oliveira took the fight for second place that he kept almost until the end with Joan Mir , Zarco and Álex Rins. The Portuguese slightly exceeded the limits of the track on the last lap when fending off the reigning world champion. At first he was relegated to third place, but when he was in the parc fermé they returned it to him after reviewing the action and seeing that the #36 also stepped outside, so he finally closed the podium.

Rins added his fourth consecutive fall abandonment. The Barcelona native was running fourth when five laps from the end he crashed at turn 15 before the finish straight.

Marc Márquez also crashed on lap 2. The Repsol Honda rider was fighting with Brad Binder –who finished fifth– in the middle of the group when they touched lightly and he lost control. Franco Morbidelli found the #93 bike on the line and had to open up through the loophole, although he was able to rejoin last.

Jack Miller completed a gray weekend with sixth place after two consecutive victories, beating Aleix Espargaró (seventh), Maverick Viñales (eighth), Danilo Petrucci (ninth) and Valentino Rossi , who completed the top 10 in what is his best result of 2021.
