The word erotophobia, which comes from "Eros", the ancient Greek god of love and from "phobia" which means "fear", is used to refer to the fear of sex . People who suffer from this sexual disorder have an unusual and persistent fear of sexual intercourse or any question of a sexual nature (be it questions, pornography, toys … everything that has to do with eroticism).
Erotophobes do not talk about sex, react negatively to sexually explicit material, and have practically no sexual intercourse or are widely spaced in time. Fear and guilt about sex seem to be above any other positive feelings on this topic. Precisely for this reason, these people tend to have a general lack of knowledge about human sexuality and infrequent use of contraceptives .
The reasons for this sexual phobia can be many: trauma in childhood or adolescence, a very repressed education in sexual matters or a lack of knowledge about it, either due to extreme insecurity or low self-esteem.
As for sexual intercourse, if they occur, in men it causes erection problems and in women, difficulties in reaching orgasm.
