Some experts in technological foresight, who try to identify future advances based on current research, predict that in a few decades it will be possible to digitize the self, that is, transfer our mental capacities to a machine or another body. According to one of these cyber gurus, the inventor and director of engineering of Google Ray Kurzweil, before the middle of the century the appearance of artificial intelligence will take place.
The advance will enhance computer systems in such a way that human beings will be forced to combine with them through different types of implants. In fact, in his work The Singularity is Near Kurzweil, he argues that this will allow the activity of all the brain structures of an individual to be simulated with the maximum detail, for example, that of each one of his 85,000 million neurons. In theory, in this way it would be possible to convert their memory, abilities and personality into data, make backup copies of them or even install them in non-biological structures much more durable than the body of a person, a process known as digital immortality. That is the ultimate goal, for example, of the Avatar Project, promoted by Russian billionaire Dmitry Itskov.
