According to a recent study by Kimberly Fisher, from the University of Oxford (United Kingdom), and published in the journal Social Indicators Research , in most countries the average time spent sleeping ranges between 8 and 8.5 hours a day , adding a total of 56 to 60 hours of sleep a week. The sleepiest are the Bulgarians and the French , who sleep about 9 hours a day. The third place in the ranking is for the inhabitants of Latvia (8.6 hours), followed by the Dutch and Estonians.
At the other extreme are the Japanese and Koreans , who spend only 7.6 hours ironing their ears each day, making them the ones who spend the most time awake. Spaniards occupy seventh place , sleeping an average of 8.4 hours a day between nighttime rest and nap time.
