Although at moderate doses the consumption of Coca Cola is not harmful, the excess can lead to serious health problems and even death. This was the case of Natasha Harris, a young woman from New Zealand who died two years ago from a cardiac arrhythmia . According to the coroner in the case, addiction to Coca Cola could be behind its tragic end.
As the family itself corroborates, Natasha could drink up to 10 liters of Coca Cola a day , which represents an intake of caffeine twice the daily amount recommended by the health authorities, and more than eleven times higher than the recommended sugar dose . As a result of this addiction, the young woman suffered from various health problems and had lost her teeth. On the other hand, scientific studies also affirm that the consumption of large doses of soda can lead to problems in the absorption of iron. In addition, excess caffeine increases blood pressure and can cause small tachycardias .
The coroner has not blamed the company, as he understands that it is not responsible for the excesses committed by consumers. As Coca Cola has pointed out in a statement: "the excessive intake of any product, including water, together with an inadequate consumption of essential nutrients and the lack of medical assistance can be fatal."
