Dennis Foggia wins the Moto3 GP at Silverstone

Dennis Foggia has won the first race of the day at the British Grand Prix. The Italian driver has been able to prevail in a test marked by fast lap times, numerous overtaking and, towards the end of it, crashes . He was accompanied on the podium by Jaume Masia, second after starting from 21st place, and Deniz Öncü, third.

There was a desire for racing, and the weather at Silverstone accompanied the occasion. Conditions were similar to those experienced in yesterday’s qualifying, with 21st in the environment and 32nd on asphalt.

That is why the riders, almost unanimously, decided to mount the medium rear tire and the soft front tire (except for Carlos Tatay, Alberto Surra and Ayumu Sasaki, who opted for harder compounds).

The traffic light went out in Great Britain and Diogo Moreira, the first Brazilian poleman in the category, maintained first place in the early stages. However, Izan Guevara, who was also starting from the front row, did not take long to steal his wallet and go on to lead the pack.

The Spanish Gas Gas rider tried to break away alone on several occasions, but the absence of any slipstream on the long straights of the English track prevented him from doing so. In the first third of the test, a group of seven units was formed, with Izan Guevara himself, Diogo Moreira, John McPhee, Ayumu Sasaki, Dennis Foggia, Tatsuki Suzuki and Deniz Öncü.

But that ‘getaway’ did not last long, and Sergio García , who started late on the grid, was able to close the gap and regroup the group, which went on to be up to 21 riders . In this large peloton , riders who started far behind, such as Jaume Masià or David Muñoz (the latter penalized with a long lap ), were able to climb positions, until they were in Top 10 positions.

The changes of leadership were constant as the laps passed, but a pattern was created: the leading places ended up in the power of those who had come from behind (Masià, Muñoz or García), while Guevara, Moreira or Yamanaka were falling to the bottom of the group.

The melee of combat began with six laps to go before the checkered flag. The times began to be faster, rolling in record records.

But tight overtaking always carries risk, and with just three laps to go Sergio Garcia and Ayumu Sasaki , both battling for podium finishes, crashed at Turn 13. The Japanese, who had to be taken off on a stretcher, was unable to stop the bike and ended up taking the Valencian rider ahead.

But the misfortunes for Aspar did not end there, and on the last lap Ortolá went down and took on Guevara at turn 7. On that last lap, Tatsuki Suzuki and David Muñoz also ended up in the gravel.

In the end, the victory went to Dennis Foggia, who managed to cross the finish line ahead of Jaume Masià and Deniz Öncü.

As neither Sergio García nor Guevara have scored points, there are no changes in the general classification of the small category. García maintains the lead, with 182 points, and Guevara is in second place, 3 points behind his teammate. Foggia , third rider with the most points, closes the gap and is now at 42 points, while Masià climbs to fourth position, at 55 points.
