Suzuki has announced that Dominique Aegerter will ride the GSX-RR this Tuesday as part of the Misano testing schedule. It will be his first experience riding a MotoGP. The already veteran Swiss rider has just been proclaimed, in the last San Marino Grand Prix, world champion in the MotoE electric category .
“We are delighted to announce that Dominique Aegerter will make several starts with a factory Suzuki GSX-RR next Tuesday, in the official tests that will be held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli,” reads the team’s statement.
The Japanese factory explained that it is a way of “rewarding” the Swiss for his recent success in MotoE, and assured that he will enjoy the team of engineers and mechanics of Joan Mir, who will not be able to travel to Misano due to injury.
“It’s a great opportunity for me, and it’s a dream to be able to ride a factory Suzuki,” said Aegerter. “I am very happy, and I want to thank everyone who has made it possible. I also want to thank Ten Kate, my Supersport team, for allowing me to accept the offer. I have always wanted to test a MotoGP, and I am looking forward to tomorrow to do it,” he added.
“Rather than complying with the usual program of a test day, this is an opportunity for him to ride our bike,” explained Sinichi Sahara, head of the Hamamatsu project. “As well as being a good opportunity for [Aegerter] to show how fast he is, it will also be interesting to hear his point of view on the bike.”
Aegerter is a classic of the motorcycling world championship, closely linked to the intermediate class. The alpine rider completed three seasons in 125cc, before making the jump to Moto2 in 2010, the category’s inaugural campaign. He remained there for 10 years, until 2019, when he decided to switch to 100% electric motorcycles.
His career in MotoE presents a crescendo trajectory. His debut year (2020) finished third, in 2021 he was runner-up, and in 2022 he has won the title .
Aegerter combined his presence in MotoE with participation in the Supersport World Championship. The Swiss did not give his rivals a chance, and in his debut season he achieved the championship title , with ten wins and sixteen podiums. This year he is also on the right track, and leads the general classification with six appointments to go.
