This website tells you how many lives you save with social distancing

With the current tension that the world is experiencing being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems that there are still people who ignore the advice to practice social distancing , for whatever reason. They don't understand the importance of "flattening the curve." For this reason, a couple of scientists have wanted to contribute a dose of mathematics with this "social distancing calculator".

Anna Szczepanek, PhD in Mathematics from Poland's Jagiellonian University, and physicist Dominik Czernia have teamed up to show the mathematical power of self-isolation. " This calculator accurately exposes how individual actions save lives.

Isolation saves lives

The experts passed their calculator variables into scientific research on how to control COVID-19 outbreaks. To make the calculator easier to use, Szczepanek and Czernia added comments and extrapolated how many lives could be saved depending on certain parameters. Specifically, seven variables divided into three groups: virus outbreak, actions taken by the government and our own decisions (the level of isolation). This last point is crucial for the final calculation.

Nothing is more effective than self-isolation at home.
