What your pet says about your personality

When it comes to pets, we can’t help but talk about the two biggest “rivals” in the home: cats and dogs. Both represent, without a doubt, the most common pets, but today we will explore some more.

Do we choose our pets according to our own personality? According to animal expert Taylor Truitt, a veterinarian at a clinic in New York (USA), the type of pet we choose often simply fits our lifestyle.

What does science say about it?

Various investigations have shown that the preference for dogs, cats, or some other species of domestic animals may reflect underlying human personality differences.

Dogs

Thus, dog owners tend to be healthier people, with better stress management and less likely to be diagnosed with depression. Another study also found that dog owners became much less depressed, especially if the owners lived alone. The presence of any domestic animal, including of course dogs, reduces the feeling of loneliness and promotes the warmth of the home. Furthermore, the results of the experiment revealed that dog owners defined themselves as more outgoing and more personable.

Cats

Cat owners tend to be adventurous, much more creative but also more neurotic, more anxious, independent and cautious , according to a study carried out by Carrol University in Wisconsin (USA). And another facet: lovers of these little felines are more introverted and nonconformist and have a higher level of intelligence than dog owners.

Reptiles

Owners of snakes or all kinds of reptiles are often viewed with suspicion. A survey by the University of Hertfordshire (UK) revealed that these people were the most independent of any pet owner. According to the study, they tend to need other people less, compared to other pet owners, such as dogs or cats.

Birds

Those who keep birds as pets are likely to be much more socially outgoing and expressive than other pet owners (yes, even those who own dogs), according to a questionnaire conducted by Harris Interactive . Furthermore, a study published in the journal Psychological Reports found that female bird owners displayed a dominant character.

Fishes

Fish owners are more likely to be attractive, but at the same time introverted, because they have more diversity in their beliefs and in their lifestyle . According to a study by the University of Oregon (USA), fish owners are less pessimistic and less cynical. On the other hand, they show little interest in material or luxury and have a freer spirit.

Slaves and Disabled: Forced Medical Test Volunteers

The main problem to carry out medical research is to have willing volunteers for it. And if they come out for free, much better. This is the story of unethical behavior in medical research.
