How to recognize a narcissist

New research carried out by scientists -Miranda Giacomin and Christian H. Jordan- from Wilfrid Laurier University (Canada) and published in The Journal of Research in Personality confirms that a narcissist is not recognized when everything goes according to their wishes, but when it is not. It is at this point – when the narcissist’s hidden vulnerability is under threat – that great narcissists make their appearance.

Recognizing a narcissist requires paying attention to their mood swings when there is a possible or real threat in the air.
The sensitivity of the narcissist’s internal thermostat is the real tip of the iceberg. In the experiment by two researchers, “narcissists experienced greater fluctuations in positive and negative effects on the days when they had to deal with more interpersonal problems.”

Let’s look at the 4 behaviors that reveal the narcissist:

Denies your emotions

Anything that interrupts feeling good about yourself is a threat to the narcissist; at that moment, he denies being angry or irate – he denies any emotion out of balance – even when you can see physical signs of anger or rage in him, such as clenching his jaws or fists or seeing a flushed face. This trait is typical of the narcissist. Anger is a wasted emotion for them. Do you deny or project anger when there is conflict?

Sudden mood changes

Any threat to the stream of self-esteem on which that person leans, whether real or imagined, is enough for the narcissist to resurface to regain that balance . Questions that we can ask ourselves in this regard to recognize the narcissist are: Do you change your mood suddenly due to small annoyances such as getting stuck in a traffic jam or when a driver cuts the way? With the question of “Does something bother you? You usually answer … nothing?

Overreact

When we are in a bad mood we could wrongly attribute it to other people who were at that time. We could blame them for it, but when we reflect on it, we will remove that thought from our heads. However, this does not happen with the narcissist: he would blame you or someone else for how bad he feels and someone will have to pay for it. Normally it would start with “Always …”.

Is very vindictive

All narcissists have a vengeful approach towards the person who has dared to threaten their well-being. Their altered empathy makes them unaware of the emotional consequences of their actions, so they hit to protect themselves and their vision of things. This is the reason why a narcissist’s divorce could often be described as hell on earth. There is no possibility of negotiation.
