Are handsome men more selfish? It is a very widespread belief among women. Now, a new study carried out by a team of researchers from Brunel University in London (United Kingdom) supports this already studied claim regarding attractive women. According to their findings, published in the journal Evolutionary Psychology , attractiveness is less generous and less egalitarian .
For their research, the scientists wanted to find out how attractiveness influenced the behavior of individuals in the face of inequality and selfishness . Thus, they chose a sample of 63 men; all of them agreed to a 3D body scan and a questionnaire. They received scores for their attractiveness based on their measurements, including waist-to-chest ratio for men and waist-to-hip ratio for women. In the same way, they conducted an experiment in which they were given a certain amount of money and had to decide which part they wanted to share with another individual.
The result of all data revealed that men with higher attractiveness scores were more selfish and less egalitarian compared to those with lower attractiveness levels. These results were compared with an external team that also had to evaluate the research parameters and the conclusions were identical.
According to the study leader, Michael Price, “our results show that, in fact, it seems to be somewhat justified to expect that the most attractive men will behave in a way that is favorable to economic and social equality. However, the correlation between attractiveness and selfishness is not infallible and, therefore, there are many attractive men with generous features ”.
