Gender and sexual orientation influence the number of orgasms we can have

A recent study carried out by researchers at the Kinsey Institute for Research on Sex, Gender and Reproduction at Indiana University (USA) has determined that the number of orgasms depends on both gender and sexual orientation and that, above all, single women are the least likely to experience one.

For their research, the scientists conducted an online survey of 6,151 21-year-old men and women . In the survey, participants had to answer about their gender, their sexual orientation, and how long it had been since they had an orgasm with a partner. Finally, the data of 1,497 men and 1,353 women who had had sexual intercourse in the last 12 months were included.

The analysis of the results revealed that when it was a stable partner, men experienced an orgasm 85% of the time, while women only had it 63% of the time.

Another of the conclusions of the study is that lesbian women are much more likely to have an orgasm during sexual intercourse than heterosexual or bisexual women, since their percentage rose to 75%. Bisexual women managed to orgasm 58% of the time.

“Understanding the factors that influence the variation in the occurrence of orgasm among sexual minorities can help in the adaptation of behavioral therapies for those of different sexual orientations,” says Justin R. García, co-author of the study included in the journal The Journal of Sexual Medicine .

According to the work, the fact that lesbian women have the highest percentage among women is due to the fact that they are more familiar with the woman’s body and, therefore, achieving orgasm in their female partner is very natural.

“These data demonstrate the need for further research on comparative sexual experiences and outcomes for sexual minorities, to understand the mechanisms by which sociodemographic characteristics and, in particular, sexual orientation, affect sexual health outcomes, including experiences of orgasm, García ends.
