A recent study published in the journal Heart suggests that doing too much high-intensity exercise can increase your risk of dying from a heart attack .
Despite the fact that the benefits of exercising are something palpable, the study explains that an excess of it , both in intensity and duration, can be counterproductive for our heart .
The study, conducted by German researchers, evaluated for 10 years the frequency and intensity of physical activity of more than 1,000 individuals in their 60s with stable coronary artery disease. Analysis of the results found that people who were inactive or did not do any type of exercise were twice as likely to have a heart attack or stroke; however, people who exercised strenuously daily were more than twice as likely to die from the same causes.
The researchers explain that the intensity and duration of exercise seem to be the critical factors that determine its positive or negative effect on our health, since “ positive cardiovascular benefits are obtained if exercise is performed in moderate doses while these benefits are lost. by increasing in intensity and duration ”, affirm Eduard Guasch and Lluís Mont, authors of the study.
