People who stay awake until the wee hours of the morning are more predisposed to develop anti-social personality traits, including psychopathic tendencies , according to a study by the University of Western Sydney (Australia) published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences in its latest edition. Analyzing the behavior of subjects who tend to get up early and comparing it with that of "owl-people", who usually stay up late, the authors of the research observed that the latter tend to show the so-called "Dark Triad" of personality, that is, psychopathy, Machiavellianism and narcissism.
Peter Jonason, co-author of the work, assures that the relationship between the chronotrype – that is, the patterns of sleep and wakefulness – and these personality traits has an evolutionary explanation, since what psychopaths or people with a tendency to act with little need Ethics (machivélicos) is to act when the risk of being detected is lower, that is, when most people sleep and the light is scarce. "The nocturnal environment favors casual sex, the assumption of certain risks and other attitudes linked to the Dark Triad", clarifies Jonason.
