Do you think sleeping can become a waste of time while you are studying? Here are three recent scientific studies that show the importance of getting a good night's sleep during exam time.
Better before sleeping. Recent research from the University of Notre Dame (France) revealed that the information that is best remembered is that which is learned shortly before going to sleep, especially if the night's rest lasts at least six hours. "If we study before going to bed what is most important to memorize, we are telling the brain what to consolidate while we sleep," concluded Jessica Payne, co-author of the work published in the journal PLoS ONE .
More creative. According to a work published in Current Directions in Psychological Science , while we sleep, memory not only consolidates, but also our brain reorganizes information in such a way that it selects the most relevant information and favors the production of new creative ideas.
Less glitches. According to a study from the University of Michigan (USA) published in Learning & Memory , sleeping well not only improves memory but also reduces the number of mistakes we make when we remember what we have learned. In other words, after a good night's sleep we not only memorize better but also have fewer doubts about which is the correct option when facing an exam or test.
