A study carried out by Oliver Robinson, from the University of Greenwich (London), reveals that long before turning fifty we suffer a previous crisis with similar symptoms: insecurity, depression, loneliness … It occurs around the age of 30 , when adults they feel the "pressure to succeed before they turn 35". According to the researcher, this crisis normally goes through phases: first the "young adult" feels trapped in their options, feels a strong desire to change, decides to quit their job or their romantic relationship and try new experiences, and finally regains control and begins a new life more focused on your interests and values . Robinson says that this crisis is positive and that 80% of the subjects, when looking back, are happy with the decisions they made between 30 and 35.
According to the study, which has been presented at the Annual Conference of the British Psychological Society in Glasgow, stress at work, relationships and friendship and expectations are the main factors that trigger internal conflict. In addition, Robinson concludes that the most vulnerable subjects are adults with higher education, with strong desires to be successful and with an idealistic concept regarding how their life should be.
