The Italian company Italmed launched last year a toothpaste and mouthwash containing phytate , a substance that fights tartar more effectively than any other current compound.
This has been confirmed by researchers from the University of the Balearic Islands who, for 20 years, have been analyzing the applications of phytate to prevent the formation of kidney stones and cardiovascular calcifications, and who have ceded the exploitation rights of the toothpaste to Italmed. Phytate is a yellow antioxidant ointment, nicknamed "the new vitamin", which had already been marketed in biscuits (Galefit) and in Lunafit pâté as a dietary supplement. But its effect on dental plaque promises to be, if possible, even more spectacular.
