To take care of ourselves, you no longer need to spend long hours in the gym. The best thing against diabetes and heart disease isshort and intense exerciseduring onlycouple of minutesaccording to new research published by the magazineBMC Endocrine Disorders.
According to James Timmons, head of the study, ashort and intense exercise routine, for example4 sprints of 30 seconds on a stationary bikerepeated three times a week, could dramatically reduce the risk of developingdiabetes Yheart disease. The effect is due, he says, to the fact that this type of exercise has a significant effect on the body’s ability to process sugar.
To determine the effect of what Timmons calls“high intensity interval training” (HIT)In metabolic processes, the scientist studied 16 sedentary men who carried out three sessions of exercise every seven days for two weeks. Each session consisted of up to 4 sprints on the bike. In each acceleration the men had to exercise as quickly as possible during the 30 seconds and take a few minutes of absolute rest between each acceleration. At two weeks, the scientist claims that he detecteda 23% improvement in insulin functions.
Although the study was carried out with young men, Professor Timmons believes that this routine could benefit people fromAll agesand ofboth genders.
“Many people say they do not have time to follow the current recommendations to exercise (at least 20 minutes a day),” says the scientist. Now that it has been shown that doing intense but brief muscular exercises dramatically improves a person’s metabolism in just two weeks, we have it much easier to take care of ourselves.
