Curiosities about okapi

The okapi ( okapia johnstoni ) is a mammal that lives in the Congo rainforest. It has the appearance of a giraffe with a short neck, although it has black stripes on its legs and tail identical to those of a zebra. In addition, the okapi has a highly developed sense of smell and hearing and can feed on more than a hundred species of plants.

On the other hand, the tongue of this animal is dark blue and measures around 30 centimeters. In fact, thanks to their elongated tongue they can clean their ears with its tip. Another curiosity of the okapi is that they have horns and, in the event of a fight, the males clash their necks. It is similar to a giraffe fight, only the okapis are smaller.

Regarding their behavior, they are very calm and scary animals. They usually live as a couple or in very small family groups. In addition, they are mostly found in jungles and lush forests where the vegetation is lush. In this way, predators and humans have it more difficult to access.

Unfortunately, the okapi is in danger of extinction due to deforestation and poaching. Therefore, we must fight to preserve the diversity of species. Here are some incredible images of okapis. Without a doubt, they are extraordinary animals of incomparable beauty.
