Toronto Free Transit on New Years Eve 2016/2017

A new year is fast approaching. Heading into town to celebrate New Year’s Eve? Toronto transit providers and their community supporters want to break through in 2017 with free rides, extended hours, and other offers. This is a great incentive to leave your car at home so you don’t have to worry about parking or what to do with your car if you end up having a few extra celebratory drinks. See below what to expect from Toronto transit on New Year’s Eve and what your best options are for getting home and getting around.

Free TTC after 10 p.m. M.
There will be free rides on New Years Eve at the TTC on New Years Eve to help make the celebration easier and more profitable. The free service is available on all routes from 7 pm on December 31, 2016 to 7 am on January 1, 2017. Subway lines and many routes with night service will run until approximately 4 am, after which you must pay to travel on the Blue Night routes. On January 1 you can expect the subway to start running at 9 am and run Sunday service.

Another option for groups and party jumpers
Another option to get around on New Year’s Eve, especially for groups, is to take advantage of TTC day passes. Day passes cost $ 12, but a group of up to six people can travel together – a maximum of two adults plus four youth ages 19 and younger (or 1 adult and 5 people age 19 and younger). This can be a good option for families celebrating New Year’s Eve.

Free rides on GO Transit, Too
GO Transit offers free rides on all buses and trains starting at 7 pm on December 31 and continues until the regular end of service. Just keep in mind that GO Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on New Years Day. Many route schedules have also been extended or adjusted for New Year’s Eve; see the Schedule Changes page on GOTransit.com for full details.

Route connection
If you’re coming from out of town to celebrate, you can also get a free ride on your local transit system. Get all the details on:

  • Free Mississauga Transit 7pm to 4am
  • Free YRT / VIVA rides starting at 7 pm
  • Free Brampton Transit after 7pm
  • Durham region free transit starting at 8pm

Hours of service will vary from route to route, so be sure to check the websites for details on the final scheduled trip for the bus you need to take.
