One of the pleasant surprises that the launch of Resident Evil Village has given us is to see the return of the iconic Mercenaries mode, after several years of hiatus.
Since its debut in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis in 1999, we’ve seen it many times, except for the latest installments … with a strange absence in the Resident Evil 3 remake. And how does it unlock in Resident Evil Village ?
The method is extremely simple, as it is unlocked after completing Ethan Winters’ story, as Capcom had anticipated. However, after finishing the game, technically you do not unlock the Mercenaries mode, but you have to pay a symbolic 10 XP from the extras store to access it. These XP are obtained by completing challenges, such as defeating each of the hierarchs. You’ll have more than enough points to spare, so don’t worry at all.
This Mercenaries mode in Resident Evil Village comes with some changes compared to previous deliveries, such as the addition of some blue orbs that you must destroy and that will grant you random passive abilities. In addition, you will start each phase (and also each section) from the Duke’s shop, to decide which weapon you want to improve or what type of objects you want to sell to get more juice.
Each section has a time limit that you can extend by eliminating enemies (with an extra multiplier if you do combos) or destroying extra time orbs. In addition, to unlock the exit you will have to kill a certain number of monsters. The key is to do it fast in the face of the highest scores .
