We all know what the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 has meant for the video game industry. The maelstrom of information, figures and debates generated by the futuristic game has been truly impressive.
Now, Bloomberg assures that the directors of CD Projekt will receive some succulent bonuses , unlike the figures that the rest of the employees handle. As can be seen from the latest balance sheet, the company’s CEO, Marcin Iwinski , and executive co-chairman Adam Kicinski will receive bonuses worth 24 million zloty, or 6.3 million dollars.
For his part, Adam Badowski, director of Cyberpunk 2077 and member of the board, will pocket $ 4.2 million. These bonuses are part of the annual profit-sharing plan, based on the company’s net profits in 2020, which increased 500% , says Schreier.
The journalist explains that of the total amount, 20% is assigned to said bonuses, with 10% for employees and another 10% for the board. A CD Projekt spokesperson contacted the publication to clarify that the company had allocated a total of $ 29.8 million to 865 employees, which is about $ 34,000 for each.
However, the employees consulted by Bloomberg point out that their bonuses are lower than those committed . They speak of figures between 5,000 and 9,000 dollars, while those with more veterans reach 15,000 and 20,000 dollars. Mind you, the staff received different smaller bonuses earlier this year.
These people that Jason Schreier contacted believe that their bonuses would have been increased if Cyberpunk 2077 had been delayed until it was ready, which it did not end up happening.
Differences between staff and management
Five of the board members have received a total of $ 28 million, of which four own 33% of the shares of CD Projekt. During an investor call last week, questioning whether it was “appropriate” for the board to accept such high bonuses, Kicinski said his compensation had “always” been tied to company earnings , Bloomberg reports.
“We made this money and the company made this money, of course, but more net profit, more bonuses. Well, we have results, we get bonuses, and that’s the contract we have.”
On the other hand, Schreier clarifies that CD Projekt is examining its practices to prevent staff from leaving. It also indicates that an employee said this year the company reassessed salaries and raised salaries for some of the lowest paid positions , such as testing, to bring them in line with video game industry standards.
Patch 1.22 of the game was recently released, fixing more bugs and stabilizing performance. We also got to know the total return figures for Cyberpunk 2077 .
