Rapist in wolf mask wants to appeal judgment

A man in a wolf mask attacks a girl and rapes the child in broad daylight in the bushes. Although the verdict has now been pronounced, the case has not yet been filed.

Munich – The man convicted of raping a little girl in the so-called wolf mask trial in Munich wants to challenge the verdict against him.

His lawyer Adam Ahmed immediately appealed against the decision of the Munich Regional Court I, as he told the German Press Agency.

His 45-year-old client had been sentenced to twelve years in prison with subsequent preventive detention for raping a girl who was only eleven years old. He confessed to dragging the child into the bushes on the way home from school in broad daylight in June 2019, where he was seriously abused. As a camouflage he wore a wolf mask during the act.

Decreased culpability?

Defense lawyer Ahmed assumes – in contrast to the public prosecutor’s office and the court – that his client, who has had multiple criminal records, is less guilty and has demanded that he be placed in a psychiatric hospital. Because the court did not follow his reasoning, he is now proceeding against the judgment on behalf of his client.

The case had raised the question of the rehabilitation of sex offenders from the start. At the time of the crime, the defendant was in a relaxation phase of the penal system. He had several criminal records for sexually abusing children. According to the public prosecutor’s office, he is said to have been noticed with sexual offenses in his youth and has also already been convicted of assault.

On the day of the act, he was allowed to drive unaccompanied from his assisted living community to his work place. According to the prosecutor, this was the only time in his daily routine when he was not under supervision. In this way, he admitted, he fell upon the child. “The cause of how this could happen must be critically questioned,” said Ahmed at the beginning of the process. “What control measures were there? What technical discussions were there? “

For the court, however, the focus is on how meticulously the accused planned his act from the Chamber’s point of view. It was “to be expected that the accused will commit substantial crimes”, said the presiding judge Bertolt Gedeon and attested the 45-year-old an “intense tendency to commit sexual crimes”. These are also the reasons why the court imposed preventive detention for the period after the sentence had been served. dpa
