After a year in 2020 in which he was unable to do so due to the pandemic, Valentino Rossi recovered his habit at the Mugello Circuit of presenting the special helmet for the Italian Grand Prix a few minutes before the start of free practice 3 on Saturday.
On this occasion, together with its head designer, Aldo Drudi , they have planted a huge cow on top of the hull, making a play on words with the mooing and the name of the Tuscan track.
Along with the cow in a green meadow that monopolizes the design, the onomatopoeia of the animal, “MUUU”, is written on the right side, and on the left “…GELLO”, a combination of words similar to the one already used in 2016 when he dyed the helmet yellow with the word ‘MUGIALLO’.
On one side and the other of the chin it also incorporates a part of the lyrics of the song ‘ Nubi di ieri sul nostro domani odierno’ (The clouds of yesterday over our mornings of today) by the Italian comedy rock band Elio e le Storie Tese (EelST) . With her he makes a new play on words that jokes with the sound emitted by cows and blackbirds: “Tell me perche’ si la mucca fa ‘mu’, il merlo non fa ‘me'” (Tell me why if cow makes ‘mu ‘, the blackbird doesn’t do ‘mi.
The presence of a cow is not accidental. It pays homage to the area where the Mugello Circuit is located, famous for beef and Florentine steak. In addition to its food, Tuscany is also famous for its works of art and at the rear of the town you can see the Torre de Scarperia , the town where the track is located.
Il dottore did not have much luck in the premiere of the helmet. He finished 18th in FP3 of the Italian GP, not getting a direct pass to Q2. Pecco Bagnaia led the training.
