A different Father's Day: how to celebrate it as a family and honor dad without leaving home

With the confinement due to the coronavirus, this year we have to celebrate a Father’s Day very different from what we are used to in Spain.

But despite the fact that the spirits are not the best and that we cannot leave the house, we can organize a nice day to pay tribute to Dad and have a great time with the family. We give you some ideas so that you can prepare everything.

1) A rich breakfast to start the day

This year we will have more time to prepare a delicious breakfast to surprise Dad and start Father’s Day with good flavor.

You can prepare some homemade muffins, muffins or some pancakes. We propose here seven breakfast recipes to prepare with the little ones and here you have many more breakfast recipes from our colleagues from Directo al Paladar.

2) A craft made by children

It is possible that this year, due to the exceptional situation we are experiencing, there will not be a gift bought for Dad, but what better gift than one made by his children with his own hands?

We suggest more than 50 crafts that can be made with materials that you have at home, from a card to a decorated mug or a picture frame with sticks:

  • Father’s Day: 25 beautiful and easy crafts to do with kids
  • 11 crafts to give to dad on Father’s Day
  • Father’s Day: 11 more crafts to give to dad
  • Father’s Day: 6 Last Minute Crafts to Give Daddy

3) A poem for dad

Together, or each one separately, you can write a beautiful poem to express to dad how much you love him . The best thing is that you let your imagination fly, but if you lack ideas, we leave you some poems that we have published in Babies and more in previous years:

  • Poems for Father’s Day
  • ‘Thanks Dad’
  • ‘Are’
  • ‘My guide’
  • ‘Yesterday and today’
  • ‘Like all that’

4) A picnic in the living room

An idea that children will find the most fun is to prepare a picnic. You can place a picnic blanket on the ground, as if you were outdoors, but in the middle of the room. Children can prepare the dishes and decorate the room as if you were in the country, with drawings and some paper garlands.

As for recipes, you can prepare snacks for snacks or delicious sandwiches. Here we leave you 101 picnic recipes.

5) A family play

Children can dress up and you can improvise a small play with all family members participating. Previously, you can create a short script to make it more professional.

6) Family games

Whether they are board games, traditional games of a lifetime, or any activity in which you all participate, the idea is that you have a good time as a family.

We propose you to rescue the games of your childhood that amused you so much as ‘Blind chicken’, ‘The English hideout’, ‘The knot’, ‘To the slipper from behind’, etc.

7) A home theater session

A plan that never disappoints and that is always a good time to put into practice is to organize a home theater session, taking advantage of all the movies available on the main platforms such as Netflix, Movistar, Amazon and HBO.

Lower the blinds, turn up the volume on the television, and enjoy a movie with your kids.

And remember, that although this year Father’s Day is very different , the best gifts for dad are kisses, hugs and being together.

Positive Discipline is an educational model that is gaining more and more popularity among families who want to educate their children in a respectful way, without yelling or punishment. There are hundreds of articles on positive parenting that we can find on the Internet and social networks, and some include tips and tools to apply it in our day to day.

There are children who are very sociable and who talk to everyone. Others who do not fear anything, or who are more innocent... which can also lead them to talk to anyone who approaches them.

The FOMO effect (Fear Of Missing Out) is defined as "the fear of missing something". And although it is a concept that has become relevant in recent years, it is nothing new. In the late 1990s, Dr. Dan Herman coined this term.

We live surrounded by technology and it is inevitable that this will be incorporated as one more tool in parenting. In addition to apps that help with things ranging from designing your baby's room to managing the calendar of children with separated parents, devices such as tablets, mobile phones or smart speakers are here to stay. Proof of this is the growing use of Alexa as a timer that children obey without question (or at least without protesting as much as their mother).

When they enter the stage of adolescence, there are many boys and girls who can become dramatic in situations that, for parents, do not have the same degree of importance. Thus, in day-to-day situations, they feel that the world is ending, or they live everything with great intensity.
