The leisure of many young people, mostly minors, has changed a lot in recent years. Video games have undergone an unprecedented expansion thanks to the best in technology and the very stories they tell. Although with this, the addiction to video games has also grown , to the point that a minor from Castellón had to be hospitalized for two months for his strong addiction to the Fortnite game.
The report of the minor, published by the Provincial Hospital of Castellón, the Jaume I University and the General University Hospital , accredits the difficult situation that this young minor was enduring due to his strong addiction to video games, which led him to enter a clinic, becoming the first clinical case of this type documented worldwide.
Fortnite game addiction
The alarms went off when the young man began to engage in unusual behaviors that alerted his parents. Among them, as EFE collects, the minor was completely isolated at home without maintaining any type of relationship with anyone. He completely rejected any social interaction for playing Fortnite.
In addition, he refused to go to medical services constantly, showed little interest in his surroundings, and began to become very selective in his tastes and restricting all kinds of activities.
Likewise, the young man, when he came to the center, presented symptoms of lack of sleep and disturbances in it, in addition to not having the necessary tools to cope with the performance of daily life. All this caused a truancy that worried the family, since he went from being a model student to not caring about his studies.
For this reason, the minor had to be admitted for a period of two months in a center to help him in his strong addiction to Fortnite.
The Alert Experts
Medical experts who usually treat this type of addiction, point out that it is increasingly common to see minors isolate themselves from the world by playing video games or being connected to social networks for much of the day.
They recommend monitoring the family to analyze the child’s behavior, especially due to “the lack of maturation in executive and cognitive functions during adolescence.”
For this, experts recommend monitoring the minor, establishing clear and defined hours of use, as well as encouraging the practice of other activities outside the home and away from technological devices.
