The Pramac-Ducati rider added his fifth zero of the season and third in a row at this weekend’s French Grand Prix, where he once again suffered a crash, leaving him in 15th position overall in the championship, very far from the drivers fighting for the title.
At the end of the race, Motorsport.com was able to speak with the Madrid rider, who explained the reason for the crash as a result of a nerve problem in his right arm that had occurred practically since the start of the Le Mans race .
“I had a nervous problem and I couldn’t feel my hand from the fourth lap and at the end, without sensitivity I couldn’t brake or accelerate, I didn’t feel anything I was doing and I decided to stay behind the KTM to finish the race, at less to have a speed reference because I didn’t know how to calculate when I should brake, I couldn’t feel the brake lever and even so I suffered a crash”.
“I braked less than normal, I entered a corner very quickly and I fell. We must find a solution to this problem as soon as possible,” summarized the man from Pramac.
The pilot has already suffered from this problem of nervous origin in the past.
“It’s something that already happened to us in last year’s race after the crash in Portimao, then we fixed it but it’s back now, so we have to keep looking to see why it happened. I’m going to go to the doctor so he can examine and try to find a definitive solution”.
With this new zero, which once again contrasts with the victory of Enea Bastianini, a rival with whom Martín is playing for the position of official Ducati rider in 2022, the decision is increasingly in favor of the Italian, a decision that, according to Paolo Ciabatti , sporting director of the Bologna team, it will be taken at Mugello, where it will be run in two weeks.
“It is clear that Enea is very strong, also Jack Miller is at a great level. This weekend I think that I have personally shown good performance, it is clear that in the race we have not been able to express it, but I am happy with the level that I have had in the trainings”.
Despite the fall and the situation in general, Martín does not want to talk about frustration.
“In the end I’ve been strong all weekend, the speed is there, and I’ll stick with that. The problem is that something happens to me in every race, now this thing with my arm and as soon as we solve it I know we’ll be back there”.
At the moment, the man from Pramac does not believe that changes need to be made in the way of approaching the grand prix.
“We have to continue in the same line of work, we have done very well. We just have to solve the arm problem, because I know that without this problem the level we have is the same as the rest”.
