A few days ago we echoed the viral experiment of a mother, who had shown with a simple home test the presence of antibodies two weeks after receiving the two doses of the coronavirus vaccine.
Now, science confirms this with the first study on this topic, which has found antibodies in the breast milk of a small group of nursing mothers who received the vaccine , also noting when they began to appear.
The study
Researchers at the Providence Medical Center in Portland, Oregon, conducted a study to analyze whether SARS-CoV-2 antibodies appeared in the breast milk of mothers who received the vaccine , as well as to review the temporal evolution and types of immunoglobulins present.
The study included the participation of six nursing mothers who had planned to receive the two doses of the coronavirus vaccine, some from Moderna and others from Pfizer, between December 2020 and January 2021.
To check the presence of antibodies in breast milk after vaccination, samples were taken before receiving it and at 11 additional moments of time , in order to also identify the moment in which they appeared. The last sample was taken 14 days after the second dose of the vaccine.
After analyzing all the samples, significantly elevated levels of coronavirus-specific IgG and IgA antibodies were observed in breast milk, starting on the seventh day after receiving the initial dose of the vaccine .
With this, what was already thought was confirmed: nursing mothers who receive the covid vaccine can pass antibodies to their children through their breast milk .
This is really something to be expected, since it is known that when a lactating woman receives a vaccine, her body begins to make antibodies in response to that vaccination , and these can appear in the milk that she produces for her baby.
As we explained previously, babies who receive these antibodies through their mothers’ milk will not be immune to the disease , but it will protect them in the sense that they will not present a serious picture if they are infected and will help fight the disease .
