A woman gives birth at home to her third child after going to the hospital with contractions and being discharged

Pregnant with her third child , Andrea began to feel labor pains and went to the emergency room convinced that her baby was on the way. But at the hospital they not only sent her back home , but the woman affirms that the gynecologist who treated her came to reproach her that it seemed unbelievable that she did not know how to identify labor contractions.

However, just an hour later the woman gave birth at her home cared for by her mother and in the presence of her two young children. The family has filed a complaint about what happened.

Your baby was born at home one hour after being discharged from the hospital

The events occurred last Friday, when Andrea Vila, who was in the 38th week of her third pregnancy , decided to go to the emergency room at the Barbanza Hospital (A Coruña) because she had begun to feel labor contractions.

However, according to various media, the gynecologist who explored her rebuked her that “it seemed a lie that she did not know what contractions were”, and after telling her that “she had nothing”, she discharged her with the indication to return. in two weeks to your next pregnancy check-up.

The woman left the hospital at 11 in the morning, but just an hour later she gave birth in the living room of her house, cared for by her mother and in the presence of her two children, aged four years and 20 months.

Although the delivery was fast, the baby swallowed amniotic fluid that went directly to the lungs , so he must remain hospitalized for a few days with antibiotic treatment. In addition, Andrea affirms that her four-year-old son was shocked when he saw the delivery and came to think that his mother was going to die.

The father, who was working when the events occurred, recalled that his second son was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and that the doctors had to resuscitate him, so he wonders what would have happened if the third baby had suffered himself in the conditions in which he was born.

The hospital has regretted the situation

According to the newspaper O Correo do Barbanza, the hospital has issued a statement regretting the situation and making itself available to the family for whatever they need, although they have not clarified whether they have opened an internal file to find out what happened.

Furthermore, they affirm that “there are situations in which, despite the fact that the patient is correctly assessed and explored by staff of the gynecology service and if the fetus activity and examination record does not present, at that time, labor dynamics, the indication is to go home “ , and they point out that in the case of multiparous mothers, childbirth can occur precipitously.

The family has filed a complaint against the gynecologist who treated them and they are studying filing a legal complaint.
