'Activate', the new campaign against obesity

Following a balanced diet and exercising daily are highly recommended habits, but in order for them to truly prevent obesity, it is essential that they be acquired from childhood.

To promote these healthy behaviors, the Spanish Agency for Consumption, Food Safety and Nutrition (AECOSAN) has launched the ACTÍVATE campaign, which aims to encourage young people to engage in regular physical exercise and eat a healthy diet.

The initiative’s Achilles heel is the website www.movimientoactivate.es whose motto is “Eat healthy and move.” Through this platform, it is intended to better connect with young people and show them through attractive content such as videos, music, recipes and advice the importance of not falling into sedentary activities and not worrying about diet, and encourage them to live in a healthy and exemplary way in a fun way.

To achieve this objective and knowing the influence that elite athletes have on young people, the organizers of the campaign have decided to enlist the help of the Spanish Olympic Committee . Thus, Olympic medalists such as David Cal, Jennifer Pareja and Saúl Craviotto participate in the social awareness action, who share their experiences and advice on a healthy lifestyle in 12 videos on this page.

The sections are well differentiated within the web so that adolescents can easily find the information they want. The most important ones are:

“Eat healthy” : part where you will find tips on how to eat well, sample weekly menus and healthy recipes.

“Move” : highlights the importance of practicing sport as a routine, whatever it may be.

“Find your plan” : indicates the multiple activities that the Autonomous Communities have for young people or the centers where they can go to play sports.

“Get informed” : here is an additional topic on how all of the above helps prevent obesity and why it is so important.

Obesity has become a global pandemic. It is currently the sixth risk factor for death according to the WHO , about 3.4 million people die each year due to this problem. For this reason, its prevention from an early age is vital, and leading healthy lifestyle habits from childhood.
