The power supply has still not been restored in parts of western Germany. The energy supplier Westenergie emphasized that it was being worked on at full speed.
Essen – In western Germany, after the devastating storm, around 102,000 people were still without electricity on Friday afternoon.
The storm and the resulting flooding continued to cause failures in the power supply in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, said the energy supplier Westenergie in Essen, which is part of the Eon Group.
Westenergie emphasized that it was working flat out to restore the power supply. Around ten transformer stations operated by the distribution network operator Westnetz are currently still directly affected by the floods. Individual systems are still difficult to reach, while others still have water.
Before they could be put back into operation, they would have to be checked and cleaned. In the event of major damage to the substation, work will be carried out to restore the power supply via switchovers from other systems or through emergency power generators.
According to Westenergie, the number of people who were not supplied with electricity was even at its peak at 200,000. However, by reconnecting systems, diversions and emergency power generators, it has now been possible to restore the power supply in numerous cases. dpa
