Ahr valley remains closed to private traffic

After the heavy rains largely failed to materialize over the weekend, the Ahr valley is now being cleaned up further. The area remains closed to traffic – the garbage trucks need to travel freely.

Bad Neuahr-Ahrweiler – In the flood disaster area on the Ahr, tons of rubbish is removed. With the support of farmers, disposal companies should bring it to landfills, as the Supervision and Service Directorate (ADD) announced.

It largely prohibits individual traffic up to and including Monday so that the garbage trucks have free travel. “Only if the rubbish is removed from the affected areas as quickly as possible can we restore the infrastructure piece by piece and eliminate possible health risks from garbage dumping,” said Florian Stadtfeld from the Koblenz Police Headquarters in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler.

Traffic disruption on the A61

The removal should also run on the A61. There, drivers must expect traffic disruptions. Volunteers were allowed to return to the crisis area on Sunday. You should use the shuttle buses from a private initiative to get there. “Every helper is not only welcome, but is also urgently needed,” explained the head of the civil protection team, Begoña Hermann.

On Saturday, the volunteers were initially asked to leave the region around Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler because of the threat of heavy rain and the unclear traffic situation. dpa
